Have you heard about "TED Talks?" In 1984 TED Talks was established to bring Technology, Entertainment and Design information to the curious and open-minded public. These are 20 minute videos that cover a huge array of subjects and information, and always lead to lively discussions and comments. The Outreach program at the Center will be having a casual TED Talks group meet in September for one hour to view one of these videos and follow with a discussion. There is no fee. Please sign-up at front desk.
Mondays 12:30 – 3:00 (starting Sept. 12 – Oct. 24)
We will be hosting a free six-week program on diabetes self-management, a participant education program developed by Stanford University. The class is for adults living with and/or caring for someone with diabetes. The sessions are geared to help manage and educate participants and are led by professionals with diabetes themselves.
Participants will receive a companion book, “Living a Healthy Life With Chronic Conditions,” and an audio relaxation CD. Subjects covered include: Techniques to deal with the symptoms, fatigue, pain, hyper/hypoglycemia; Appropriate use of medications; How to communicate effectively with family, friends and medical professionals; Nutrition tips and advice; Decision making; and How to evaluate new treatments. Advance registration is require.
Networking: The Regional Networking Group will meet at the Center from 9:00am to 11, every 2nd and 4th Thursday of the month. If you are unemployed and actively looking for work, under-employed and looking for a new career direction, or recently retired, not ready to stop working and looking for your "Encore Career", this program is for you! Cost is $5 (tax deductible) includes training materials provided at meeting. Please register.
Lunch and Learn Cooking Class series is a big success - sign up early because space is limited. It will be once a month. Class time is 45-60 minutes followed by eating what you all prepared. The class is limited to 8 participants registration required. In house classes are free.
