Restricted Items

The following table lists items that require special handling for disposal. None of these items should be left out for weekly curbside rubbish pick up unless specifically indicated below.

residential fluorescent light bulbsContain mercury, even the compact ones. Bring all kinds to Hopkinton Lumber, no charge. Only bulbs from residences will be accepted ,non-residential bulbs will be refused.

lawn mowerLast Saturday of each month bring bulk metal to the DPW Highway Garage. Drain all oils and fuel before bringing to the DPW Highway Garage and dispose of properly.
leaves
mattresses and other furnitureMattresses and other furniture (depending on size) may be disposed of at the curb and collected by EL Harvey, free of charge, with the following requirements:
1. You may only dispose of mattresses and furniture on your regularly scheduled collection day, and
2. You must first call EL Harvey at 800-321-3002 to notify them that you are disposing of a mattress or furniture and on what date. EL Harvey will let you know if they can pick up your item and what steps you should follow.
medical waste
  • dilute unused medicine and pour down the drain ONLY if you have sewer hookup (NOT septic)
  • sharps, hypodermic needles, and lancets shall not be disposed of in your trash, they shall be disposed of in accordance with 105 CMR 480.125. See the Board of Health's page for more information at Board of Health
